Objective: Objectives of Election Rules
Procedure:
1. Create T-chart on paper. Label one column "majority" and the other "plurality."
List which election in each county requires a majority (greater than 50%) and which only require a plurality (the most).
Student should compare answers.
List the advantages and disadvantages of elections vs appointments.
2. Create new country groups.
Create a PowerPoint with the following information- Slide 1. Major elected and appointed offices with the type of electoral system.
Slide 2 and 3- summarize the legislative (both upper and lower house) election results by party for the last three elections. Summarize appointment process and membership for the UK House of Lords, Russian Federation Council, and China's National People's Congress.
Slide 4- Show the results of the last three elections for presidency. Summarize appointments for UK's PM, China's President/prime minister, Russia's prime minister, and Iran's supreme leader.
Slide 5- Summarize how elections in the country can be used to substantiate the type of regime (democratic or authoritarian) of the country.
